Google Assistant Might Finally Let You Choose a Custom Trigger word

“Ok Google” on phones, “Hey Google” on Google Home speakers (Google’s Echo). Confusing isn’t it?
Many users have reported that each assistant having their own trigger words, is not an easy thing to live with.
Alexa has one, Google has one on the phone, another on the device. Lots of confusion.
One Reddit user has reported that he saw an option on his Google Home device, to choose between “Ok Google” and “Hey Google” as trigger words.
Now, this doesn’t mean that you’re being allowed to choose a custom trigger word, but things are changing.
From absolutely no custom trigger word, to two options, is a big jump.
I’m hoping Google will finally let off the guard and let users choose their own custom trigger word.
Alexa, you listening?
